The WHBHS Pep Band is fit and ready for a full season of events and a new song lineup.
Performances this year began with WHB football games as per usual, followed by the Pep Band’s opening performance for the pep rally. However, the pep band will not be limited to football games this year. Their first performance outside of football was at the girls varsity volleyball Senior Night game, which was on October 17.
You can expect to see the band at a varsity football game against Hauppauge on October 24. Later in the school year, the band will play at select boys and girls varsity basketball games throughout January and February. A performance at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 14, 2026, will close the pep band season.
Conductor Joshua Seifert said he has led the band for, “In one form or another, 27 years.” Seifert added that in students, he looks for a “positive attitude, willingness to work hard and have fun, a sense of teamwork, and responsibility for the entire group.
Songs for this season were chosen “through a combination of student requests and borrowing from college football bands,” said Seifert. The current song list includes “Megalovania” by Toby Fox, “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne, “Hooked on a Feeling” by Björn Skifs and Blue Swede, and the “Notre Dame Fight Song.” Two new songs, Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” and the Rockford Files theme by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter, have also been added to the roster for upcoming games.
For senior and student president Chelsea Aguirre, the pep band means more than just music. “It means so much to the point I can hardly convey it in words,” she said, describing it as a “fun-tight-knit community” that has helped her grow and find passion in music.
“We have to cram in a lot of practice in a short period of time, she said, noting the work of members who balance rehearsals with other commitments. Aguirre plans to conduct at some games and organize fundraisers for the yearly field trip.
With new leadership, an updated lineup, and steady commitment, the WHB Pep Band is set for a strong year.
