Running back Nic Simone, ranked #10 on LI for rushing yards, is having a standout junior season.
Nic was named to Newsday’s Gridiron Greats list for two weeks in a row due to his performance in the games vs Eastport-South Manor week 3 and Half Hollow Hills West week 4. Nic combined for a total of 525 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
About this recognition, Nic said, “It feels great being one of the leaders for sure. Being only halfway through the season I still have to try to not pay attention to these things and just have fun with my friends.”
He continued, “Honestly I’m pretty surprised. I’m not sure if anyone from WHB has been a Gridiron Great for two weeks in a season, let alone back to back weeks.”
Nic doesn’t take all the credit for this season. He said, “I have to give the most credit to my coaches and the O-Line. Their level of play this season has been great and without them I highly doubt any of this would be happening.” The O-line includes juniors Blake “Rooster” Gilks, Liam Brand, Andrew Wendell, and seniors Ben Magee and JP Peters.
For the rest of the season Nic hopes to rush for 1,000 yards and be recognized on the all county and all Long Island team.
We wish Nic the best of luck throughout the rest of the season.
