After a rough season with just one win, the girls soccer team is looking to the future.
During the 2025 season, the girls varsity soccer team has a record of 1-11-2. Their one win so far was against ESM, in the Kicks for Cancer game, where they won with a score of 2-1 in double overtime. The soccer team will be losing seven seniors who have all played a tremendous role in helping the team throughout the many seasons they have played.
Coach Habersaat said, “Overall the team has been working really hard this season. The two biggest things we can work on are connecting our passes more accurately and communication. When the team does those things in a game it makes a huge difference. I’m proud of how they keep improving each game.”
Coach tries to keep the team morale up, even through the losses. She said, “It really is just a matter of encouraging this team to believe in themselves. We are in a league where most teams are typically playoff teams, and some of the strongest in the county.”
According to captain Ava Failla, the team’s challenges began with the league adjustment. She said, “Since we got moved up, has a lot of competitors so it was a big adjustment; but as a team we worked a lot in practice to keep some close games.”
However, the team stayed close through the challenges. She continued, “The team this year is one big family and we are all close friends with one another. In my opinion morale is kept up as a team because of our bonds on and off the field and working hard in practice.”
Captain Khloe Hoda agreed. She said, “Our team has faced challenges with communication and finishing plays, but we’ve been working hard to improve our connections on the field and turn our chances into goals. As captain, I focus on staying positive and encouraging my teammates, even when the game isn’t going our way.”
As their season comes to an end, Coach Habersaat was also asked how the upcoming team for next season looks, where she said, “We will graduate some strong and experienced players for sure. The senior class definitely makes a significant impact on the field. We have some very promising underclassmen on Varsity right now and JV has been having a good season. I can see some players really stepping up in the future. The key is to try and take advantage of the summer to have new players getting used to playing together and the speed at the varsity level.”
