The Last Laube Takes The Turf
Laube is a familiar name here in Westhampton football, and now it’s time for the last member of the family to make his mark. Deegan, the youngest of the Laube boys, is a sophomore. It is his first year playing as a varsity football player and he is excited for this season and his future years on varsity.
Deegan’s family was a big part of his journey to becoming a varsity athlete. He began playing football at the age of 5. He said, “I played with my brothers. I really didn’t know what I was doing but now I love the sport and have been playing since.”
He would train with his dad and his brothers, Devin and Dylan, who graduated in 2016 and 2018. Deegan gives a lot of credit to his brothers for helping him become the athlete he is today, “They always pushed me to go to the top and become the best athlete I could.”
Dylan, who is currently playing for the University of New Hampshire, said, “I was always hard on Deegan because I wanted to push him to be great. He may think it was because I was mean sometimes, but it was always out of love.”
He continued, “I know his potential and how great he can be. I wish him the best of luck. Devin and I are so proud of him.”
Along with Deegan’s family always pushing him to become the best he could be, he also shined light on his best friend Ryan Traynor. “He comes to every one of my games and always supports me. He loves being there and always has been.”
Ryan and Deegan have been best friends since third grade; they like to emphasize the “best.” Traveling, paintballing, and watching UFC fights are just some of the things they like to do.
“Deegan has worked very hard to earn his spot on varsity and I am very proud of him and happy that I got to be apart of his journey,” said Ryan.
Deegan talks about his future hopes for this season and sets his goals high. “I know we’re making it to LIC this year. I hope we can win, and you never know, maybe I’ll even make a touchdown.”
