Westhampton Beach High school celebrated their second annual Wellness Day to spread and create awareness for Mental Health Awareness Month.
The purpose of the event was to learn different wellness strategies, connect with friends, and reduce certain stress and anxiety with upcoming finals and end-of-school tension.
Local companies and stores came to the fair to give students a look into how their business works and how it can help the community spread mental awareness. Jala Hot Yoga, 7 Fitness, and Sobol were just some of the many other businesses that attended.
East End Hospice, which focuses on providing comfort to individuals, had a big impact on the Wellness Fair. The reason for attending, according to a representative, “We wanted to spread a bigger awareness towards young adults who are struggling mentally if they feel that they can’t reach out or get help. We provide counseling for any loss of loved ones which can help stressful times become less painful with coping techniques and healing processes.”
There were certain students who participated and volunteered in organizing the event, which had them gain community service hours and develop leadership skills. Students got to help out throughout the day, setting up stands and encouraging their fellow peers to come check out the different businesses.
Sophomore Maggie Zheng was working at the temporary tattoo stand. “I had a great experience volunteering for the wellness fair. It made me learn more leadership and organization skills, along with teamwork.”
The students supported their local businesses by participating in activities, paying attention to the important influences of mental health, and spreading awareness throughout their community.
