Four WHBHS female lacrosse players from the class of 2027 have made history as the first class of girls to all commit to DI schools.
After undergoing the long and stressful recruiting process, all recruits found their future new home at DI colleges.
The first commit of the four was Mia Brown, who committed to the University of Maryland. Maryland is a powerhouse for lacrosse and is ranked #7 in preseason rankings for NCAA women’s college lacrosse. She chose Maryland of all the choices because it felt like home to her.
She said, “I committed to Maryland because I fell in love with the bond the girls had on the team, and since I don’t have siblings, my teammates are people who I want to be like my sisters.”
Next, Emma Luzim committed to the University of Winthrop, located in South Carolina. Emma has always had a passion for lacrosse and is excited to continue her lacrosse career at the next level. She said a big part of why she chose Winthrop was the coach.
She said, “She was very hard going but also loving, and I can see that she strives to do amazing things and also hold me accountable, but she is also going to be a second parent and be one of my number one supporters. I also love how she wanted to turn around the program and make it even better.”
A couple of weeks later, Tierney McEntee committed to Long Island University. In the last two years, LIU has won the NEC title and has advanced to the NCAA women’s lacrosse tournament. Tierney’s older brother, Morgan currently plays men’s lacrosse for LIU, and now they will be attending the college together. Tierney said she is very excited to be going to the same college and spend more time with him.
McEntee said, “I am so excited. He will be able to drive me around, and I will get to hang out with him all the time.”
Finally, Reagan Schindler committed to the University of Coastal Carolina. Coastal Carolina is ranked #1 in the ASUN conference preseason coaches poll for the upcoming year. Reagan chose Coastal Carolina as her new home because she loved the location and the team atmosphere.
She said, “What made me decide to commit to Coastal was the location. I feel it is the perfect distance away from home, just 20 minutes from the beach. The campus is beautiful, and I immediately clicked with the coaches who really value me as a player.”
Recruitment for any sport, not just lacrosse, can be very stressful and time-consuming, but always ends with a positive outcome. Putting the effort and time into this process will always pay off.
