After all the fun, games, and a little friendly competition during Homecoming week, our new Mr. and Ms. Hurricane were crowned. Seniors Sandra Clarke and Brady Schultz came out on top as this year’s annual Mr. and Ms. Hurricane crowning.
Sandra shared that she is proud of her achievement, she said, “Winning means a lot; it’s a reflection of the relationships I’ve built and the impression I’ve left on people. It shows that being yourself, staying kind, and putting effort into real connections matters.”
Sandra also told us what she felt separated her from the other contestants. She said, “I didn’t grow up in WHB, Quogue, or East Moriches. I moved back to Long Island from upstate New York, so during freshman year, I was focused on understanding the vibe of WHB. In that process, I made it a point to connect with as many people as I could, and a lot of those friendships have lasted. I think my ability to move between different friend groups and stay true to myself helped set me apart.”
Brady also seemed extremely proud of being voted Mr. Hurricane. He told us a little about how he worked to get here. “I was consistently dedicated in my classes and serving in my community. Although I wasn’t actively striving to be Mr. Hurricane throughout high school, my general attitude and personality helped me get nominated and eventually win.”
Sandra admitted, “All of the nominees had to have thought we might win, but I stayed humble throughout the process and didn’t have any expectations. I just appreciated being part of it.”
To Brady, winning Mr. Hurricane means, “I had a lasting impact on my peers. My friends and classmates considered me worthy of representing them and the school, and it is a huge honor to be able to represent the community in this way.”
In the end, it wasn’t fully about who took home the crowns and titles. It was most importantly about showing school spirit, participating in extracurricular activities, and showing leadership in and outside of school.
Congratulations to Brady and Sandra!
