The 2025 school year is almost over and that means seniors are getting ready to graduate. Many are choosing what college to go to and thinking about the next chapter in their lives. Some are excited, nervous, and most don’t even know what they want to do yet.
After a successful high school journey, Julia Ryvicker is ready to start a new chapter of her life at SUNY Geneseo.
Julia had a great idea of what her perfect college would be like for her. She explained it as “a medium sized school with a pretty campus and nice buildings.” S
he also wanted a college in a place with “lots of stuff to do and many opportunities to help my future.” The world outside of a classroom is just as important as the learning inside for her.
Julia’s choice to pick Geneseo was clear when she was accepted into a special program. She said, “I got accepted into an early acceptance program with Lake Erie College of Medicine through Geneseo and I knew it was the best path to take to achieve what I wanted in the future.” Julia’s goal is medical school.
Even though Julia considered other schools, Geneseo stood out to her the most. She said, “Even though there were other colleges that seemed a good fit for me, Geneseo was the only one I felt could provide the resources and opportunities to help me plan my future.”
Julia’s hard work in high school earned her many awards. At senior awards night, she was recognized by groups like the Quogue Association, WHB Garden Club, Kiwanis, WHB Middle and High School PTO, Quogue Fire Department, and Quogue PTA. These awards show how involved and dedicated she was both in school and her community.
Julia worked hard in her classes and earned a 4.0 GPA. She also scored a 1280 on the SAT. These achievements helped her have more opportunities, get into the early acceptance program and prepared her for the hard college work she has ahead of her.
When asked what advice she would give to younger students, Julia kept it simple. “Get in good study habits and learn how to not procrastinate,” she said. Julia believes that managing time well and staying on top of work are great ways to succeed in high school.
