Sara Heaney is a Sophomore here at Westhampton Beach High School. She isn’t just a normal teenager who just makes it through high school though. She is one of the many students that do People to People. Meaning she travels around the world in a short span of either a few weeks or months doing fascinating things and meeting extravagant people.

Heaney has been to many amazing places. She travels with family and sometimes with people shes never even met before but thats the the thrill of going through People to People with all these other teenagers shes just meeting! She’s been with her family to Portugal,she stated “I have family who lives there so I go there every summer.” She’s also been to Canada, England, Spain, & Australia. She went to Australia this past summer with People to People.

This upcoming year shes going to Europe in the winter also with this program; in February shes heading to Punta Cana but that is just for her 16th birthday with her amazing family. This summer she is either doing People to People  traveling to Japan for two weeks or doing a pre college program at Oxford university in England for 4 weeks. Than of course in late July she will be going to Portugal as well. She is finding her way to Japan with the amazing people she met this past summer. She says “I met so many new people and friends that I got so close to, it took me a while to warm up to them because Im a shy person who keeps to myself but now how close we all got we try to meet up almost whenever we all can at someones home.”People to People is an amazing program that my mom found for me because I told her I wanted to find new places to go and not just stay here forever. This program is pretty much a outreach thing for teens to find amazing places to visit while also having actives to do as well.”

Heaney was 15 when she first started traveling with People to People but just traveling in general she was just a child. Heaney claimed that “you get to see how different each place is like when u go to Europe everything is so like different, it’s all so old looking compared to other places and in Australia everything is so modern like it looks like America its just cool how everywhere is so different.”

If you were looking to find a way to travel the world, meet new people and find awesome things to do a good bet would be that People to People is just the program for you. If you happen to see this young girl Sara Heaney and see her as just an ordinary girl than you are mistaken, just ask her about the next upcoming trip!
