Get out of the way! Freshmen are coming through!
Welcome to WHBHS, freshmen! You’re going to have the time of your life this year, no matter what anyone tells you.
Getting pushed into lockers, screamed at down the hallways and bullied by the older kids will only happen in movies, so stop thinking freshmen year is going to be the worst experience of your life because you know it won’t be! Don’t worry about following everyone else or feeling accepted. Be yourself at Westhampton Beach.
“It’s a big adjustment,” said freshman Haley Pisciotta, “but I look forward to where this year will take us.”
Let me give some important advice about freshman year.
1) Work Hard! Freshmen year is most likely one of the easiest years in high school, so get good grades because college will be coming before you know it!
2) Get involved in community service. Community service helps on your college applications and you need at least 10 hours each year to graduate.
3) Try new clubs and sports! Sophomore Jennifer Gutman said, “It’s a good way to learn to interact with your teammates and meet new people.”
4) Lastly, remember to be yourself and don’t follow other people because by the end of high school, everyone will have to take their own separate path anyway.
Lastly, here’s some tips on how to stay out of trouble in high school.
1) DON’T give into peer pressure. Only participate in something safe that you want to do.
2) Don’t be late to class! You could get written up or sent to detention.
3) Do not text. Teachers hate when you take your phone out and use it during class. It is a distraction to yourself and other people (and it is also against the rules.)
“Mrs. Regan is the best teacher ever,” says freshman Ryan Klausz who apparently adjusted to his new math teacher right away. (It’s always good to make a good first impression on the teachers. Prove them even better than you are!)
Some freshmen, like Sarah Blumenthal, said, “The transfer from middle school to high school isn’t really a big thing. It wasn’t as hard as I expected.”
Make sure you have goals planned for yourself. High school goes fast and by the time you reach junior year you should already have a clear mindset. “My goals for this year are to be a better student and to get good grades,” said freshman Anna Ortiz, a standard set of goals that should be set by every student.
Don’t forget- time goes way too fast to waste it and not do the best you can. Try and put away the negatives of drama and fighting. Work as a team to succeed because if you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything. Welcome Class of 2015!
