Girls varsity tennis team
The girls varsity tennis team made it through divisions as the first seed in the county. Even with so many new players, the girls have bonded well together and feel stronger than ever.
Freshman Ava Borusso said, “I think because most of the team is new, we were able to have good chemistry from the ground up and we did it quickly. We all work well together, we have fun, and we are all very supportive of each other.”
The seniors this year are Matilda Buchen, Eva Wax, Nikki Lee, Shannon Killoran, Julia Ryvicker, and Maggie Gilbride. The singles are Maggie, Julia, and Eva, and doubles are Matilda and Ava, Shannon and junior Ana Way, sophomore Zoe Grellet-Aumont and new to the team eighth grader, Gabby Arango, and sophomore Maddie Montgomery and junior Diana Elliot.
At the counties Buchen and Borusso took second place and are on their way to states. This year is a new doubles pair for Buchen, who lost Julia Stabile who graduated in 2024. Matilda said, “It was definitely difficult at first, especially since Ava and I weren’t familiar with how each of us plays, but as we kept practicing together we became more familiar with each other’s playing style and our chemistry got stronger. The team’s passion for tennis and desire to put in extra work has made us so successful.”
Matilda also mentioned that a player to look out for is Gabby. “She has very strong reflexes and is very fast on the court.”
On Saturday October 26, 2024 the girls varsity tennis team was defeated by Hills East for the final playoffs with a score of 2-5. This is the end of the season for the rest of the team but October 28,2024 Ava and Matilda are on their way to states.
