Tuxedos pressed neatly, ties tied precisely, dresses hanging gracefully, jewelry dangling elegantly, corsages secured, and boutonnières pinned, Juniors of Westhampton Beach lined up beside buses, waiting to be taken the Westhampton Beach Country Club for Westhampton Beach’s Junior Prom on April 24th, 2015. Delicious food and good music filled the room, as students danced, ate, and chatted the night away. Prom is always considered to be a magical night, especially for the prom king and queen. Liv Dodson, the prom queen of junior prom of 2015, talks about her experience earning her title.

“It just kind of happened,” Dodson says, talking about her nomination for prom queen. Though she did not campaign for prom queen, Dodson jokingly campaigned to get prom king, just for laughs. “I went for prom king, because it was more of a joke role,” she says. Even after being nominated as a prom princess, she did not campaign for prom queen. Dodson did not even feel competitive towards the other girls running against her. “I was honestly kind of hoping that they won because I felt like I didn’t deserve it,” she confesses, reflecting on her antic that soon turned into nobility.

Once the night of prom came, Dodson and her friends sat around the table, waiting for the royal announcement. “I almost knew it was going to happen,” she says, “but it was still a good feeling when it actually happened.” The royal announcement was made, and Dodson was handed a tiara and a sash, and she took her place as Prom Queen. “I didn’t get to finish my dessert because they took it away while I was up there, but it was a good feeling,” she laughs, recalling her favorite memory.
