Yes, we all have summer homework. But no worries- you won’t have to scribble this out the day before the first day back, or worry about completing it while on the beach. This is simply an idea, something that could definitely be achieved with help from everyone in the school.
From listening in on those tidbits of conversations heard in the hallways, it’s safe to say that most of them were negative. If you stop and listen, you’ll notice it too. Sadly, there’s a lot of hatred steaming throughout the building, and most of it’s judgmental- and can be prevented.
So what if her hair isn’t perfect, if it’s frizzy, or if she styled it in a new way? So what if their clothes aren’t in style, or if their shirts are “ugly?” So what if he doesn’t wear the coolest brand-named sneakers? So what if she’s short? So what if he’s overweight? People are people, and everybody deserves respect.
Let’s all try to be just a little bit nicer when we come back to school in September. Let’s take the summer to compose ourselves and start fresh. Let’s keep those nasty rumors and rude remarks silent and instead spread some positivity. Let’s forget about critiquing people, and instead give compliments, or smile at someone in the hallway. A smile goes much further than a nasty glare, and perhaps that smile will be shared with others down the halls. It’s so much easier being kind – plus it makes you feel good about yourself.
I’m not saying we all have to be best friends from now on, but being a little bit more respectful would do everyone miles of good. You know what Mom used to say, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anythin’ at all!” Take that a step further by saying something nice to someone everyday, and you’ve completed your summer homework. Just like how reading and doing your math summer assignments prepares you academically for the new year, accomplishing this homework will set the karma of WHBHS heading in the right direction.
We can do it everyone- and remember, a smile can change the world.
