Recently the dance team of six girls, two of which are new members, performed at the 30 Hour Famine and during lunch periods for students.
The team’s current advisor is Doll, also who is Taylor Montanaro’s mother. Doll is a dance instructor and helped the dance team with its fundraising Zumba on Febuary 9, 2011.
The team’s history began with Ms. Llewellyn, a former French teacher held the dance club in her room after school. After Ms. Llewellyn left WHB, the girls were left with no one to supervise and half the girls who joined the club never came back, five girls stayed: Myself, Sally Toussaint, Brea Hall, Ashley Victor and Taylor Monantaro. The girls stayed after school everyday in the hallway and practiced dances that they choreographed.
The Dance Team started out with no budget but with the support of Mr. Herr they finally got a small budget for uniforms.
Last year, Sally Toussaint graduated and Ashley Victor joined cheerleading leaving Sharlene, Taylor and Brea to bring the Dance Team back together. They held tryouts for both girls and boys to join. The dance team wanted girls/boys who would be committed; hardworking and show up to every practice just like any other team. Ms. Juma, helped start out the dance team this year and supported them.
After tryouts, they immediately began to brainstorm ideas and dances with their new dance members. Michelle Gutman and Amanda danced their hearts out at the tryouts and made it on the team. Later, Ashley Victor became a dance team member again.
The team plans to perform at the following upcoming events: the talent show, St. Patrick’s day parade, the Battle of the Bands and are currently looking for more events to perform for this year. Listen for announcements, Facebook events and posters to see where they will be next!
