After a record season, the Boston Red Sox have defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World series. The Red Sox went 4-1 in the five game series.

The Red Sox started it off great at home in the first game of the series, as they got an 8-4 win. Chris Sale pitching for the Red Sox only went four innings in the win and he allowed three earned runs.

The bullpen was very solid, and the team was lead by third baseman Eduardo Nunez as he was very good defensively but even better for the offense as he had three RBI’s, one run, and a home run in one at-bat.

In game two the Red Sox continued to flourish as they got off to an early one nothing win in the second. However, the Dodgers struck back in the 4th, scoring two. After that it was all Red Sox though.  They scored three in the 5th and won the game 4-2.

David Price pitched for the Red Sox and started off with a strong six innings of baseball as he only allowed two runs and struck out five. His opposer for the Dodgers, Hyun Ryu, had a bad outing as he only went 4.2 innings striking out five and allowing four runs. As the Dodgers pitching continued to struggle Boston took a 2-0 lead on the series.

They were in Los Angeles for game three as the Red Sox looked to take a 3-0 lead in the series and the Dodgers looked to stay alive. Little did the teams know they wouldn’t be doing much sleeping that night after the game as it was the longest recorded game in MLB history. The game went 18 innings and the Dodgers took it 3-2 with a walk-off from the rookie second baseman Max Muncy. The game was really all pitching all the way through as both bullpens were completely dominant.

The 18 inning game ended at 4:30 in the morning.

However the most surprising performance in the game was the rookie starting pitcher for the Dodgers Walker Buehler. He had an absolutely amazing performance as he went seven innings, struck out seven, and allowed zero runs. It was an extremely impressive performance by the young star.

His manager Dave Roberts said, “Certain people can handle a moment like this and understand what was at stake tonight, and we needed his best effort. We needed him to go deeper than their starter, log some innings. Some guys run from it. Some guys can’t answer the bell. But this guy, he’s got an overt confidence, a quiet confidence, a little combo. He’s got tremendous stuff. And he lives for moments like this.”

Game 4 was a pitcher’s rally early as there were no runs scored till the fifth. Eduardo Rodriguez had a good start as he went 5.2 innings for the Sox but collapsed in the 5th, allowing four runs. Rich Hill however for the Dodgers had a great performance as he went 6.1 innings only allowing one run and striking out seven.

However after Hill was pulled the Dodgers bullpen collapsed, as the Red Sox had a five run 9th inning. The charge was lead by Steve Pearce as he had two clutch hits in the 9-6 victory. Pearce went 2-4 with four RBI’s, and a home run. The Red sox were one win away from being champions.

Game five was all Red Sox as they scored two runs early and kept it rolling. David Price had an amazing start for Boston as he went seven innings, had five strikeouts, and only allowed one run. Along with Price’s great performance Steve Pearce had another amazing night. He went 2-4 with two home runs and three RBI’s. At the end of the night he was announced the World Series MVP. He said, “You never know where the game will take you. And I’ve gone through a lot in my life or in my career to be here, and I couldn’t be more thankful.”

The Red Sox won the game 5-1 and won the series 4-1. It was an amazing year for the Red Sox, ending in the best outcome possible and the team hopes to continue their success next year.
