This weekend the WHB girls’ winter track 4×4 team made up of Kayla Berman, Maeve Murphy, Julia Smith, and Maureen Duffy competed at the 3rd annual Freedom Games at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island. On Saturday, the girls took home first place with a personal best of 4.02.

Coach Broich says the race from Saturday can be described as having “lots of guts and courage.” In preparation for meets, Broich said, “It is crucial to be practicing well and perfect. Having consistent practices done at a threshold level is going to get you to your goal.”

His goal for the 4×4 is to have a shared decision, with his 4×4 going to States!

Freshman Maureen Duffy said that the race on Saturday can be described as “gutsy” because it took all of us running out of our comfort zone in order to win. During a race, Maureen’s mindset is to “always run fast and to do it for Broich, because he’s such an awesome coach, and I hate disappointing him.”

Training for races has benefited Maureen because it has put her in the best shape possible so that she can run up to her full potential. Our biggest goal this season is to make it to states and possibly even win, which is completely possible!
