With a record of 152 wins, Conner Bass is arguably the best wrestler WHBHS has ever seen. As the son of Mr. Bass, WHBHS wrestling coach and the twin brother of All-County wrestler Zachary Bass, Conner has grown up around wrestling and has been trained to be a champion his entire life.
During the weekend of February 25th and 26th, Conner wrestled in the State championships and accomplished his life-long goal of becoming an All-State wrestler. After losing a close match in the first round of the tournament, Conner battled back with a bad knee and won three matches in a row to become All-State.
Conner ends his high school career as a 4-time League place winner and a 2-time League champion. He was an All-County wrestler three times, and county finalist in 2011. He is only the second WHB wrestler to become All-State. During this year’s League Finals he wrestled Ken Meinsen of John Glenn High School, who later placed 3rd in States, and beat Miensen in the last 7 seconds of the match. This match made Conner the League champion and became his most memorable match.
“Winning leagues, making it to the county finals, and becoming All-State are three of my proudest accomplishments this year. Obviously, I would have loved to win Counties, but I lost to a kid that I had already beaten in the League finals. That was probably the biggest disappointment I had this season” Conner shared.
Conner plans on attending an Ivy League University next fall to continue his wrestling career. His goal for wrestling college wrestling is to become an All-American.
“It’s always good to aim high and keep setting goals because once you become satisfied you stop trying to better yourself, and you can always get better” he said.
We wish him luck and congratulate him on an impressive career.
