New Year in WHB

New Year’s resolutions are annoying and cliché. However, while many think of them as overly ambitious attempts at far-fetched goals, they become a key element of conversation in the early weeks of 2014. Want to shed or pack on a few pounds, or possibly maintain a high level of academic performance? Or do you want to achieve an athletic feat, or quit a bad vice? Although many New Year’s resolutions fail miserably, for some of us they can provide positive aspirations that help us in bettering ourselves as human beings. So what are some of our New Year’s resolutions?
Nationally ranked long snapper Jordan Laube will make it his mission to become the number-one long snapper in the state by the end of his senior campaign. Senior two-sport star Ryan Osborne aims to finish his wrestling career on a high note with all-county honors. Michael Frangeskos wants to finish his high school career strong with high As in every class, while sophomore lacrosse sensation Zak Jones looks to make Newsday for his feats on the field.
All of these are great resolutions that show determination and drive. However, no matter how much you want to improve yourself, don’t use the New Year as an excuse. Seize the day, and don’t let the calendar control your actions. Why wait until 2015 when you can better yourself today?
