Westhampton Welcomes New Teachers

Westhampton Welcomes New Teachers

Welcome to Westhampton Beach High School! Ms. Wheeler and Ms. Robles are new teachers at Westhampton Beach High School. Ms. Wheeler, a new English teacher for 10th grade, and Ms. Robles, a new Spanish teacher for 10th grade are both here pursuing their dreams of being teachers. Here’s what they have to say about themselves and being new and involved in WHBHS life.

Ms. Wheeler is a new 10th grade English teacher to Westhampton Beach. She’s been teaching since she was 25. What inspired her to be an English teacher was her eleventh grade E nglish teacher, “She was very inspiring, passionate about her craft, and approachable…and she gave out stickers,” Ms.Wheeler says. When she was younger Ms. Wheeler’s favorite teacher was her 1st and 2nd grade teacher, Mrs.Doolittle, “She made sure that I felt safe being away from home. She was always there to help me and make sure I understood the content. We also went to the circus on a field trip and it was awesome.” Ms. Wheeler has been teaching for one year but before being a head teacher at WHB she was a substitute teacher at Westhampton for a year. This year is her first year being a head teacher. Before Ms.Wheeler came to Westhampton she taught at William Floyd High School. Before she knew she wanted to be an English teacher another job that she  considered having was being a construction management worker, “I originally went to SUNY Farmingdale to pursue a career in construction management. I have always loved to tutor and am horrible at math so I decided to learn how to be a teacher and never looked back.” The college that Ms. Wheeler attended was SUNY Oneonta, “I chose SUCO because they have an excellent Education Program that allows you to earn both a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and in your content area. I thought that was pretty cool and the price was great as I paid for my tuition.” Some tactics that she has in her classroom to entertain her students and keep them engaged is “I make silly hand gestures on a regular basis, which makes the kids laugh (I hope!). I love my students and look forward to an awesome year being their teacher.”

Ms. Robles, is a new 10th grade Spanish teacher to Westhampton Beach. What inspired her to be a Spanish teacher was having amazing teachers while she was in school, “They helped shape who I am today. I had amazing teachers in elementary, middle, and high school.” Ms. Robles has been teaching for 13 years, but she’s only been a head teacher for two years. Before coming to Westhampton Ms. Robles taught at The Institution of Collaborative Education in Manhattan and also at Babylon High School.  The colleges that she went to were Buffalo University, SUNY Old Westbury, and Stony Brook University. Some tactics that she has in her classroom to entertain her students and keep them engaged are she tries to incorporate thing that relate to their lives. “ Things they do everyday like talk about the weekend and what they do with their friends. I also like to incorporate things that relate to Spanish culture.”

Both Ms. Wheeler and Ms. Robles are very excited to be a part of Westhampton Beach High School. Both are here pursuing their dreams of being teachers and are living it to the fullest. All of Westhampton welcomes them to our school and our family. We wish you the very best for your first year at WHBHS.
