On December 2, four WHBHS freshmen presented to parents and educators about Facebook and Formspring at Hofstra University’s Internet Safety and Bullying Prevention Conference offered by The Long Island Youth Safety Coalition. The students, Jules Robbins, Marc Cotter, Shannon Giere and Jesse Buchter, were selected to present by their English teachers. The title of their presentation, “Protecting Your Online Reputation: Safely Using Facebook, Twitter and Social Networks” guided attendees on privacy settings and how and why these tools are used from the perspective of young people.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen M. Rice formed the coalition in response to the dangers facing teenagers on the Internet, from predators to cyber-bullying.
