Winter in NYC Over Break

Winter in NYC Over Break

‘Tis the season to grab your loved ones and take a trip to NYC. Winter is one of the ultimate times to be in the city; from the tree lighting in Rockefeller to Christmas plays on Broadway to the charming snow that falls in Times Square, NYC in December is magical.

The season brings the famous ice rink underneath the annual Christmas tree. The rink located at Rockefeller Center is open from October 14th to April 1st, from 8:30 in the morning until midnight, and 150 people are allowed on the ice at a time. Ice-skating is good for going in groups, observing the great views of the famous tree or even for a romantic date.

Checking out the festive window displays at mid-town department stores is also a must. When looking at these windows take in every story trying to be told or the Christmas traditions being displayed. Stores such as Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue and Barney’s New York are participants in this holiday tradition.

NYC being the king of Broadway, offers tremendous performances. Any show is great to see but during the winter, go with the season. Visit  “Christmas Story” in Madison Square Garden or the “Christmas Spectacular” at Radio City Music Hall.  You’re guaranteed to leave in the holiday spirit.

Take the time to stop and have a bite to eat after all this site seeing. Visit OTTO Enoteca Pizzeria on Fifth Avenue for some Italian or The Smith restaurant for a casual American brasserie in Lincoln center.

After walking the streets of NYC, you are sure to need something to warm up.  Take a trip to Serendipity for a remarkable frozen hot chocolate or The City Bakery which has its own hot chocolate festival every February.

We are lucky to have the best city in the world just an hour and a half away!  And, being gifted with two weeks off for winter break means hopefully there’s time for you to plan a trip to NYC.

Happy holidays!
