The cast of the WHBHS musical, Footloose! have been preparing and rehearsing for the opening weekend that was supposed to take place the weekend of February 8th. Due to the blizzard, the musical has been postponed to this week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 28 and March 1st + 2nd at 7:30 pm.
Footloose! is a fun, upbeat musical that the cast really enjoys rehearsing to perform. This is director Rosemary Cline’s first time directing a musical. “It has been a fresh challenge,” she says, “I’ve never collaborated as a director before either. Mr. Rubinstein has been a terrific partner, we have very different talents and skills and it has been a neat trick to wind and meld them together.”
Knowing that “it would be a blast for the kids to do,” the musical Footloose! was the perfect choice. “Being a part of a musical is a fun experience for both the cast and crew. Rosemary Cline will miss “the surprise I feel when the cast digs creative stuff out of themselves and deliver it up for us to experience.” Also the “daily, zany, rollercoaster ride.” “I’ll miss this big hearted way these students have jumped into every void to help with all aspects of the production, I’ll miss the sharing and teaching, in both directions, of the madness of taking someone else’s thoughts, feelings, and voices, and telling a story through a song, dance and words that other may be moved by.”
Kaela Murphy, a member of the cast, liked “spending time with the whole cast and learning dances because we can make it our own.” Kaela says she will really miss being alart of this production, “there’s great songs that I sing, I’m definitely going to miss the seniors that are leaving; they made the show a lot of fun this year.” She was very happy with how the musical turned out this year. “It was a great experience, a great story, and a great show that leaves you happy and dancing because all the music is upbeat and fun.”
