Lights, Camera, Action! WHBHS’s Chamber Choir set the stage on Tuesday January 29th for News 12 to document their historical adventure into Carnegie Hall.
Students were told to go directly to the auditorium after second period to be filmed. When everyone arrived, the chamber singers were told that they were going to have two takes. The first time they were to pretend it was a normal rehearsal. The second time they were to pretend it was an actual performance.
The production of this broadcast was “very efficient with our time. It took a total of 15-20 minutes” Mr. Rubinstein, choir director, said. However, it wasn’t all Hollywood with twenty cameras just for a facial shot. Daniel Taylor “…pictured more cameramen for different angles, but they only had one camera.”
Being filmed, it turns out, isn’t all that bad. “Filming for News12 is like performing in a concert with a really large audience” Mr. Rubinstein put it. There was basically only one rule- do not break the fourth wall, or in other words, “…Don’t make contact with the camera,” said Daniel Taylor.
As of February 13th, the “Cool at School” segment has not aired yet. But the Chamber Choir is still excited, like Kimmie Vish said, “I can’t wait to see it when it comes on!”
