“What are they doing?” is a question you may have been wondering every 3rd and 6th periods, when you see groups of students walking around the school with their cameras.
Among all the art classes the school offers, the Photography course gives students a chance to experience professional techniques.
“This is one of the most fun and interesting classes I’ve taken,” said Antonia Berlinger, who is currently taking the class. “It gives us the chance to test out the different techniques we learn.”
Mr. Erickson, who teaches Photography, says the class is about “surveying photographers’ work and techniques, discussing, and doing conceptual and technical thinking.”
As a former art director, Mr. Erickson shares his passion of photography with his students. “He’s the best,” junior Dineen O’Rourke said. “He really connects with the students.”
The students get the chance to use professional Nikon and Cannon cameras, which provide the opportunity to really experiment with photography.
Being able to manipulate Photoshop is an important skill to have when taking photography. WHBHS offers Computer Graphics courses to learn the basics while giving you the opportunity to take Photography in the future.
The Photography class is “a wonderful art class filled with freedom. I highly recommend it to anyone even the least bit interested in photography, because it will open your eyes to many new roads of techniques you never thought a camera was capable of,” said Dineen enthusiastically.
So now, next time you see a student walking around the school with a nice digital camera, taking pictures of the lockers or the hallways, remember it could be you!
