The time of fun, joy, and profanity has run its course. The amazing production of A Chorus Line is now over, and for some members of the cast, so is their high school acting career.
A Chorus Line is about 17 hopefuls who are auditioning for eight slots in a Broadway show. These actors have to talk about their life stories, with some coming with interesting words. The life stories were real events from actors who helped put this show together in 1975.
The actor who kept this show running was stage veteran junior Tye Granger, who starred in Fools. He sounded like a God while in the back of the house, mostly because his “God Mic” was hooked up to every single speaker in the house. But he wasn’t the only one that kept everybody together and happy.
Senior Colette Girardin, as the character Val, talked about how she went out and bought “tits.” This scene made all of us laugh and enjoy ourselves, while bringing us closer together. Her song brought along some controversy. “It’s a HUGE deal that this was allowed to be done at WHBHS and I got to be a part of it. Best feeling ever,” said Colette.
Sophomore Marc Cotter, a new actor to the WHB stage, got to start off the 20-minute Montage by talking about how his character got gonorrhea at the age of 13. We all loved having him on stage with us and joining our family on and off the stage.
More moments of this comedic caliber came from sophomore Kaela Murphy, who was the show’s bundle of energy, senior Nicole Jones and junior Jake Lorefice, who truly cared about each other on the stage. The entire cast was amazing.
As in every great musical, there were some sad moments. Another new actor to the WHB stage, Francesco Logozzo’s brilliant monologue before the torturous number “One” helped us realize what life can truly be like for some people.
Another person that became important in the process of this show is a new teacher to WHB. His name is Mr. Rubenstein, the chorus teacher and the music director. He really did help the show come together. Freshman Emma Galasso enjoyed working with him. “I was amazed by Ruby’s experience and knowledge. He came right in during the audition and I was blown away by his dancing skills. He definitely made the experience fun and memorable.”
We are all so blessed from this show, but we have to lose some amazing talent. Sadly, we will be losing seniors Nora Davenport, Jackie Saccente, Madison Mulvey, Colette Girardin, Eric Derevjanek, Augusta Greenbaum, Nicole Jones, Gina Arfi, Haley Shoeck, Jazzy Sinkoff, Alexis Arocha, Ashley Arcuri, Allie Peraino, and Michelle Cardo to graduation. We also can’t forget the crew that helped us put the show together: Matt Terry, Jacob Kearney, Kim Lato, Cassie Martin, Sinead Gilsmith, Mara Terchunian, Erini Karoustus and Alix Suter.
This was also the last production for our beloved Stage Manager, Emily Brosnan, who has been with WHB stage management since 2008. She might boss us around sometimes, but that’s because she cares about us. “Emily is one of the most talented, patient, controlling (a good thing) stage managers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with,” says Senior Colette Girardin. “I call her Zeus because she is the most powerful and respectable person on the crew. She does more than my small actor’s brain can even comprehend,” said Senior Nora Davenport. Maddy Mulvey agreed with Nora. “She does her job with tough love. Her emails at all hours of the night were the best.”
Sophomore Jesse Buchter, who will become the head of the stage management department said, “I think Emily is an incredible stage manager. She has a natural talent for the job and puts in an inconceivable amount of time and dedication into her shows. I will miss her tremendously,” He has a tough job on his shoulders that Emily made seem easy.
“We’ve become such good friends; we’re a family now. I wish every senior the best in college after coming through WHB,” said Junior Francesco Logozzo. Don’t worry, each and every one of you made an impression on all of the underclassmen. The family that we all became will never be broken. We miss you and we will always remember you.
