When we think about past graduates we commonly wonder were they are now. Many are in college and others may be working. Here’s another look at an alumnus who chose the military. Ronan Seltenreich is a 2011 Westhampton Beach graduate who was a wrestler and well-known for his high spirit and fun personality.
Q: What made you decide to sign instead of college?
A: “I decided to come here because I knew that if I was here my family and friends didn’t have to be because I’m here for them.”
Q: Do you recommend others to sign?
A: “Not to everyone, especially the infantry. It’s a big choice and you have to be someone who is committed to it.”
Q: Do you think anyone could go through the training?
A: “I don’t think that anyone could get through infantry training. We had around 25 men quit the first day; it was no joke. Grown men broke down crying because they could not do it. Personally I love my job though I guess anyone can do it if they really want it.”
Q: How hard was it to get through training?
A: “The training wasn’t physically hard it was just all a big mind game. Yes, physically it’s tough sometimes but that always had to end you can’t do push ups forever! But I’d say the mental part was the hardest, knowing after a long day you have no way of talking to your family. I really didn’t think I would miss my family that much until I left but it turns out to be all you think about at night”
