Last weekend, WHBHS robotics team, 3171 or Hurricane P.R.I.D.E., competed at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. A total of 66 teams competed 8 rounds each.

The teams played a great game and through the terrible livestream, robotics spirit filled the air. 3171 had a qualification average of 53.37, earning them the third place spot. The team made it all the way to the playoff rounds to only be eliminated in round 14 out of 17.

Teams were placed in alliances for each round, competing red vs. blue. It was a matter of teamwork, not just among their own members but the two other teams they competed with. In the playoff rounds, 3171 was placed in alliance 1 with team 3419 and team 4571.

Ultimately, they were knocked out right before the final three rounds. They played a great game overall.

Awards were given out during the competition to a select few teams, and 3171 won the Creativity Award sponsored by Xerox.

Junior Jack Buenten is proud to say, “I felt the competition was an amazing experience with a tough competition. Though we came in third this competition, we are sure to place first next time.” Wish the team luck as they compete at Hofstra University during March 26-28.
