So I know what you’re thinking, but Mr. Herr is NOT a metal-head; Mr. Hilly and Mr. Clifford have that taken care of.
After careful examination and interaction, I’ve come closer to figuring out what makes our teachers tick, and although they’re constantly telling you to shut off your iPod in class, music is as big a part in their lives as it is yours.
If you’re wondering what your teachers are like minus the tie and plus a pair of jeans, read on and rock on!
First stop, WHBHS’s own rock historian, Mr. Dawson, who started off by saying his favorite, genre of music is Classic Rock, because it’s creative and experimental. He shared, “I like to lose myself in some of the jam bands.”
He also expressed his love for the Grateful Dead, his favorite band, because they are creative and exploratory and combine a number of interesting genres, from jazz to psychedelic. However, as much as he likes the Dead, he said the concert he wanted to see most he actually already saw, Pink Floyd’s the Wall. To stick with the Pink Floyd theme, he said the best concert he has seen is The Dark Side of the Moon Tour at Jones Beach in 2008. He said it was perfect cause it had just stopped raining and a rainbow had stretched itself over the stage, just like the Dark Side of the Moon album cover!
Thinking back to the first album he bought, he laughed cause it was sitting up on the wall of his classroom, Billy Joel’s The Stranger, which he bought for $7.99 at the age of 7. To this day he still loves the album because it’s nostalgic. “It was the first time I got into music.”
Towards the end of the interview, he delved into the confines of his iPod and admitted, as embarrassing as it is that he does have the BeeGees on there. The song he listens to most is “So What” off Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, which he called ,“Maybe the greatest album of all time. Check it out!”
