Still wondering what sort of music makes our teachers tick? Still wondering what I’m talking about? (See article on Mr. Dawson below!) I furthered my investigation in teachers’ music tastes and this time things got artsy.
Art teacher Mr. Erickson began by saying that he is very eclectic; he can listen to anything from Billie Holiday to Deadmau5. He even has his Sunday morning ritual of listening to “Sunday Morning Jazz” on 88.3. His favorite band though, “If I had to pick one, Van Halen, they’re timeless.”
The concerts at the top of his list to see are either Pink Floyd because they’re classic or The Scissor Sisters because they are known for an awesome live show, and he’d like to see them before they break up. But the best concert he’s ever seen was, the B-52s front and center seats at Six Flags. He said, “I’ll never forget it. I still have visions of it.”
Like Mr. Dawson, the first album he bought was by Billy Joel; Glass Houses, which he bought in fifth grade. He said that he still listens to it, especially to hear the scratches and pops records make, hearing gives him a warm feeling. The first concert he went to was David Lee Roth’s “Eat ‘em and Smile” tour in 1985. He remembered there was so much energy. “David Lee Roth is like a game show host that can sing.”
As much as he loved all the music he listens to he was embarrassed to admit that he does have George Michael’s “Father Figure” on his iPod. Even though he is embarrassed by that he says the song he listens to most is Chapter 11’s “Ragamuffin Girlfriend.”
