Everyone who goes into high school has different thoughts of what is going to be like. Some may think it’s going to be easy or some may think it will be hard. Some students just want to go through high school and get it done with. But there are always those students who want to get advanced diplomas and get involved and play sports.  Freshman Marley Merrihew is that kind of student.

Marley, who is described as smart, hilarious, reliable and outgoing by her friends, lives in East Quogue and grew up there. Marley’s parents are divorced, and although they don’t get along, she still describes her family as “a chill family.”

Even with the pressures of school and sports, Marley still finds way to be cheerful and bring other people up by making them laugh. Freshman Julia Smith, who plays JV volleyball with Marley, said, “Whenever I’m not having the best day Marley always finds a way to make me laugh.”    Marley is always in a great mood (except when she has a migraine) – it’s very rare to find Marley without a smile.

Even though Marley is working hard inside of school, she does have her time out of school to play sports and hang out with friends. When Marley was in second grade,  she started to play lacrosse.  She still plays basketball and volleyball.

Marley thought walking into high school would be “somewhat like High School Musical,” however she said it is much harder and different.  The best thing she has experienced in high school so far is meeting her new English teacher, Mrs.Mett. She said Mrs. Mett is the type of teacher that shows she cares about her students and will be willing to help anyone at any time of the day.

Mrs. Mett, said, “Marley is a breath of fresh air.   She definitely brightens my day, and I love to reward her with Smarties.”  She continued, “One thing many don’t know about Marley is how intelligent she is.  She is one to watch.”

This October she decided to start a vlog channel, because her friends thought it would be cool for her to start one.  Marley shared that it is still under construction.  We look forward to seeing what comes next for Marley.  As Mrs. Mett said, she’s one to watch.
