Freshman looking to become involved members of the Hurricane community should be attending the Club Fair in the cafeteria on Thursday, October 8th during 9th period. Explore a selection of WHB’s finest clubs ran by Westhampton Beach High School’s very own faculty and student body. With the amount and variety of clubs in WHB, there is a club for everyone. WHB has an array of clubs for students interested in languages, art, science, music, community service, writing, technology, and even government.

One of WHB’s most popular clubs is C.U.R.E. (Classmates United In Restoring the Environment), the environmental club. They run the school’s recycling program and host events like the 30 Hour Famine and Battle of the Bands to raise money for environmental causes. Last year during Earth Week, C.U.R.E. performed “The Lorax” for the elementary school. “Last year we got them to participate and it was really cute,” says Malini Mehta, senior at WHB and the Event Coordinator of C.U.R.E., recalling one of her favorite memories of the club. C.U.R.E. also takes lots of trips and outdoor adventures, highlighting what they work so hard to save.

Another popular and successful club in our school is our Robotics Team. “Our club, in simplest terms, is almost like a sport,” says Jack Buenten, senior at WHB and a member of the Robotics Team since his freshman year. The team designs, builds, and tests a robot together and uses it to compete all over the state and country. Robotics is an exceptional club that can help build skills in the areas of science, technology, and engineering. “The main personality we want to see is like anybody who’s willing to have fun,” Buenten says, “there’s always a job in the club, whether it’s building the robot, or creating graphics for the team, just a whole mélange of different activities.” The team even won the U.S. First Robotics Long Island Championship last year, which qualified them for the World Championship that was help in St. Louis Missouri, in which they ranked #33.

Robotics and C.U.R.E. are only two examples of the WHB’s marvelous selection of clubs. So, freshmen who are looking to expand horizons and meet new people should check out all kinds of clubs at this Thursday’s club fair! Be sure to stop by and talk to other students to get all the information you need to get involved in the Hurricane community!
