Senior Ryan Osborne, who won 4 awards.

On Thursday May 29th, 2014, the Annual Senior Scholarship awards presentation. It was an amazing event, held in the Westhampton Beach High School auditorium. There was over 30 scholarship given and over $250,000 given to seniors, including iPads. The scholarships are awarded to students exemplary students in a variety of categories: coaching, military, nursing,  community serviand athletics, etc.

There were many winners that night, one winner Marc Cotter, won over 5 awards and an iPad. Marc said, “ I feel extremely grateful and humbled.  It feels great to feel acknowledge by people for the work I do.”

He advises students who hope to win a scholarship, “Just be you and stand up make a change.“The secret to winning is not trying to win the awards, it’s just being a leader, and you should be recognized of for what you do.”

Ryan Osborne, who won four awards and an iPad said,  “I feel fantastic, it’s an honor to be chosen for those awards, and I’ll put the money to good use. The advice that I give to students is just be yourself have a very knowledgeable background.”

Alexus Van Helmond won $6,000 overall.  She said,  “I was really surprised that I won.  I thought that I was only getting one award but I got two. I believe my community service for the Westhampton Beach fire department set me a part from other applicants.”

Many students won multiple awards such as Connor Regan, Aiden Kraviz, Marc Cotter, Lauren Smith, and Leonardo Souza.

It is a great event that showcased all the hard work of these students.  For all you underclassmen, keep up the good work because a scholarship may be in your future!
